Scholarships at University of Central Lancashire

The University of Central Lancashire, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust are offering four scholarships for the MBBS (Bachelor Medicine Bachelor Surgery) for UK students from the North West of England for 2020 entry onwards.
We particularly welcome applications from students who are from backgrounds that are under-represented at university.
Regional Scholarships for East Lancashire and West Cumbria
The Mackenzie Scholarship is offered to applicants from East Lancashire. The scholarship is jointly funded by UCLan and East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Dr Kate Granger Scholarship is offered to applicants from Cumbria, particularly Copeland or Allerdale. The scholarship is jointly funded by UCLan and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The 2 scholarships cover all tuition fees for the duration of the 5 year programme and clinical placement costs in the respective Trusts; plus a bursary for subsistence which will be equal to the maximum amount of subsistence allowance that the Student would be entitled to if they were to borrow from the Student Loans Company. The latter will be means tested as part of UCLan’s MBBS UK Scholarship application process.
Scholarships for Widening Participation Students
The School of Medicine has developed a Pathways to Medicine programme, for students from the North West of England who are from backgrounds that are under-represented at universities. The programme provides advice, skills and support to strengthen application to medicine and related professional healthcare courses.
Students who successfully complete the programme are eligible for 2 scholarships known as the Livesey Scholarships. The scholarships will cover all tuition fees for the duration of the 5 year course.

Students should apply for the MBBS via the UCAS system. No additional scholarship application is required.
As part of the awarding of each scholarship, all applicants will be invited to complete a widening participation form.
Each applicant who is shortlisted for interview will take part in the same competitive selection process outlined in these documents. In the awarding of the MBBS scholarships preference will be given to successful applications from a widening participation background.

Recipients of the Mackenzie and Dr Kate Granger Scholarships will not be eligible to apply for tuition fee or student maintenance support loans from the Student Loans Company. Any applications which do not meet the stated criteria will be rejected. If it transpires that any information provided on the form is falsified this will result in removal from the process. The decision of the Panel is final and there is no appeals process. We can only take enquiries from the applicant themselves and not from a parent, guardian, carer or friend. This support will be provided to the Student on an annual basis for the duration of the Scholarship Period.
